Designed by John Sharp and built for the 1977 Whitbread Race. Initially fitted with a carbon fibre mast, this was replaced when it broke on the first leg. Tank tests showed a “hump” at 14 knots, but this was not disclosed and proved a restriction in the Southern Ocean legs.
