| British Oxygen 70 foot catamaran |
In 1973, multihulls were still being looked upon as a slightly eccentric side of the sport when Rod Macalpine-Downie designed BO for Gerry Boxall and RKJ. In her they won the 1974 two handed Round Britain race. When completed, she was the largest racing Catamaran in existence, built by Olympic Gold medallist Reg White at Brightlingsea, Essex. Although heavy by modern models, she clocked 28 knots in flat water and once covered Hamble to Ramsgate in 8 hours. Sold to the French, she was lost in the 1976 Ostar.
