1965-67- Suhaili - Bombay to UK via Arabia and the Cape of Good Hope.

The original plan was to sail from Bombay in 1964 but building delays caused the cancellation of plans to sail to the UK via Africa in 1964, and, after two months pent diving for gold south of Bombay for the Indian Customs, the two partners pulled out. RKJ, having missed the favourable Monsoon, returned to the UK, took his Master’s Certificate and spent 5 months in the Royal Navy before returning with his brother Christopher and Heinz Fingerhut to complete the boat in 1965. They sailed from Bombay in December 1965, via Muscat, Salala, Mombasa, Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, Mikandani, through the Mafia Channel to Mtwara, then on to Beira, Lourenco Marques (now Maputo) to Durban where, money having run out they took jobs for 8 months. RKJ worked for Grindrod Gerisgny, a stevedoring company and for 3 months was relief master of the Durban Lines coaster MV Congella, trading to Lourenco Marques and Beira. During this time they towed “Rehu Moana” Dr. David Lewis, into port. In November 1966 they sailed from Durban, calling at East London on their way to Cape Town. Departing Cape Town just before Christmas, they arrived back in London 77 days later.
